Agios Antonis, 2.815 m. Olympus Mt.

The peak of Ag. Antonis at 2815 m is the fourth highest peak of Mount Olympus. The route is generally considered to be easy to reach due to the asphalted road leading to the KEOACH (Mountain Race & Ski Training Center) up to 1805 m altitude.

View from the peak.

Before we start:

  • ID Card

  • Map of Olympus

  • Boot crampons

  • Water & food

Tips:

If we plan to stay overnight we must first inform the camp. Contact tel. 24930 621 63.

Starting from either Katerini or Elassona we follow the road to Olympiada and then to KEOACH, Vrysopoules. Outside the camp there is a car parking. We approach the mountain better, passing through the camp. For this reason we prepare our equipment in the parking lot and state the soldier of the gate, our name and telephone number with our police ID to pass through the base.

Tips:

At the KEOX Club we can find some last minute snacks and water if we have forgotten to buy before we start.

Ascent:

Following the dirt road through the camp we hike to the lifts and from there we will arrive in about 1.5 hours at the "Kostas Mingotzidis" Emergency Shelter at 2340m.

Tips:

Do not hesitate to spend the night in Migotzidis shelter if you have the necessary equipment. There is an oil stove and the army usually supplies the refuge with fuel. Beds and blankets are available.

After the refuge the road to the top of St. Antonis is clear. From 2340 m to 2815 m it will take another two hours of climbing with the skins or often with the necessary crampons for the boots.

In the refuge at the top of Ag. Antonis there is wireless communication for emergency of the Hellenic rescue team. There are beds and blankets in case of overnight stay.

Descent:

From the top right to Migotzidis Refuge, snow quality is usually excellent and enough throughout the winter months.

Reaching Migotzidis refuge there are many different paths:

  1. The most prominent is the slope next to the lifts. Left and right of them. We are headed to KEOACH.

  2. A second route is the stream to the right of Migotzidis shelter which also leads directly to the KEOX.

  3. For the more advanced, the closest peak for a second ascent is to the right of Hotza 2510m and from there again to Mingozidis Shelter and back to the base of the KEOX stream from the stream to the right.

TIPS:

Right in the stream the snow holds until spring and is usually best when frozen on the slope.

The sunrise ...

..and the sunset ..
Whenever visiting or staying overnight on the mountain make sure you don't leave any of your belongings there or any trash...

Enjoy !
